The lamp represents our mind ā the vessel of thoughts, desires, and emotions.
When winds of desire, fear, or attachment blow, the lampās light wavers.
A restless mind reflects distorted reality ā like a shaking mirror showing a trembling world.
The same mind, when purified through meditation, devotion, and discipline (abhyÄsa and vairÄgya), becomes still ā and begins to reflect the light of the spirit clearly.
Krishna reminds Arjuna in Gita 6.26:
āYato yato niÅcarati manaÅ caƱcalam asthiram,
tatas tato niyamyaitad Ätmany eva vaÅaį¹ nayet.ā
ā āWhenever the restless mind wanders, bring it back under the control of the Self.ā
