This website and The Inner Circle newsletter are run by Dr. Dibyendu Choudhury, an individual author and researcher based in Hyderabad, Telangana, India. There is no company behind this site and no marketing team — correspondence comes from one person.
This policy explains what happens to personal data you give to dibyenduchoudhury.com. It is written to be read, not to be survived.
| Data | When | Required? |
|---|---|---|
| Your name | When you subscribe to the newsletter or use the contact form | Yes |
| Your email address | When you subscribe, request an e-book, or contact us | Yes |
| Date and time of signup | Automatically, at the moment you subscribe | Automatic |
| The page you subscribed from | Automatically, at the moment you subscribe | Automatic |
| Anything you type into the contact form | When you send a message | Your choice |
| Email delivery, open and click events | When we send you a newsletter | See section 5 |
We do not collect payment card details on this site, we do not ask for your date of birth, government identifiers, religion, caste, health information or any other sensitive category, and we do not buy contact data from list brokers.
Your name and email are used for exactly three things:
The lawful basis is your consent, given when you submit the signup form. You can withdraw it at any time (section 8), and withdrawing it is as easy as giving it.
We do not sell, rent, trade or share your email address with anyone for their own marketing. No affiliate lists, no data brokers, no sponsor swaps. If that ever changes, this policy changes first and you will be told before it applies.
Running a newsletter requires a few service providers. Each one only ever sees what it needs to do its job:
| Provider | What it does | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Amazon Web Services (Amazon SES) | Delivers the newsletter email | Mumbai, India (ap-south-1) |
| Google (Sheets & Drive) | Stores the subscriber list | Google data centres |
| Our web host | Serves this website | India |
| Google Analytics | Anonymous traffic statistics | Google data centres |
Some of these providers operate servers outside India. Where your data crosses a border it stays with the providers named above, under their own contractual and security obligations. We add no further recipients.
Newsletters we send include a small invisible image and rewritten links, which tell us whether a message was opened and which links were clicked. We use this only to judge whether an edition was useful and to spot delivery problems — never to build a profile of you, and never shared with anyone.
If you would rather not be measured at all, most email apps let you block remote images, which stops open tracking. You can also simply reply and ask to be switched to a plain, untracked send.
You may ask us at any time to:
Email dib@dibyenduchoudhury.com with what you want. No particular wording is needed and you do not have to give a reason. We aim to reply within 7 days and to complete the request within 30.
Every newsletter carries a one-click unsubscribe link at the bottom. One click, no login, no confirmation page, no “are you sure?”. It takes effect immediately.
You can also unsubscribe directly at dibyenduchoudhury.com/newsletter-unsubscribe, or by replying to any edition with the word unsubscribe.
This site uses Google Analytics to count visits and see which articles are read. It sets cookies in your browser and records a shortened version of your IP address. It does not know your name, and we never connect it to your subscriber record.
You can block these cookies in your browser settings, or install Google’s opt-out add-on. The site works normally either way.
The site is served over HTTPS. The subscriber list is held in a Google account protected by a strong password and two-factor authentication, and API access is restricted to a single service credential stored outside the public web directory. Sending credentials are scoped to email only.
No system is perfect. If a breach ever affects your data, you will be told promptly and plainly, along with what happened and what to do.
This site is written for adults and is not directed at children under 18. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has subscribed, write to us and we will remove the record.
If this policy changes, the “last updated” date at the top changes with it. If a change materially affects how your data is used, subscribers will be told by email before it takes effect.
For any question, request or complaint about your data, including matters under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023:
